A mi padre (In memoriam). To my father (In memoriam)
Roble majestuoso de imponente tronco,
raíces profundas y erguido hacia el cielo;
jamás doblegado por los vendavales,
armonioso y dulce, longevo y esbelto.
Cuántas tempestades con valor pasaste
en agreste suelo, vapuleado y solo.
Nunca te doblaste, resistiendo airoso
tormentas, ráfagas, fragores y estruendos.
Caballero dulce de afable presencia;
conjunto invaluable de grande nobleza,
forjador de sueños, voluntad de roca.
¿Dónde están tus sueños quiméricos y esquivos
y tu alma tan fecunda envuelta en el dolor?
Viajero solitario, enigma inescrutable,
errante por la noche eterna y misteriosa.
Resquicios en mi alma, ternura y nostalgia;
tus brazos recios, mi nido de paloma,
de mi miedo abrigo, alivio de mis penas.
Liberada mi alma de su investidura
ansiosa de tu luz su rayo seguirá;
surcando la neblina hasta alcanzar tu estrella.
To my father (In memoriam)
Majestic oak with an imposing trunk,
deep roots and erect toward the sky;
never bowed by the gales,
harmonious and sweet, long-lived and slender.
How many tempests you bravely endured
on rugged soil, battered and alone.
You never gave in, gracefully resisting
storms, gusts, roars, and thunders.
A gentle knight with an affable presence;
a priceless collection of great nobility,
forger of dreams, a will of rock.
Where are your chimerical and elusive dreams
and your soul so fertile, wrapped in pain?
Lonely traveler, inscrutable enigma,
wandering through the eternal and mysterious night.
Gap in my soul, tenderness and nostalgia;
Your strong arms, my dove's nest,
Shelter from my fear, relief from my sorrows.
My soul freed from its investiture,
Eager for your light, its ray will follow;
Plying through the mist until it reaches your star.
